This study investigates the failure of a large-scale advertisement hoarding in Mumbai, India, in 2024, which collapsed under wind loads exceeding its design capacity, along with various other reasons. A forensic analysis highlights critical inadequacies in foundation design, wind load estimation, and code compliance. Using field data and IS codal provisions, the paper identifies gaps in structural and geotechnical design practices for such hoardings in coastal urban regions. The study proposes region-specific design guidelines, emphasizing wind pressure coefficients, foundation stability, and safety margins. This work aims to improve future hoarding installations by integrating engineering design with municipal policy to ensure structural safety and public welfare.

摘要
