Person-Centered Care Models for Individuals with Chronic Depressive Disability
摘要
Depression is one of the leading sources of disabilities in the world, affecting more than 300 million people in general. Along with the rising cases of depression, the increasing instances of anxiety disorders also contribute substantially to the overall impact of mental health issues in the global health burden. The World Health Organization identifies the third most prevalent reason for the overall burden of diseases in the world as people with depressive disorder. The condition has become more dismal ever since the COVID-19 pandemic, as people have largely been encountering isolation, economic depression, loss of loved ones, and more psychosomatic pressures. Therefore, the perfect prognosis about the condition has been given by the World Health Organization, which foresees that depression may become the leading reason for the overall burden of diseases in the world by 2030. A number of treatment strategies have been considered in dealing with the effects of depression. These include pharmacologic therapies, psychotherapy, lifestyle interventions, and community-based interventions. Among the treatment paradigms worth considering is the person-centered care approach. This approach has been recognized for its holistic perspective on care. It is patient-centered and has continued to adapt in such a way as to be more in conformance with the behaviors and values exhibited by the patient due to the possible causative nature presented in the situation involving the patient’s depression.
