Chinese Characters and the Iconicity of Classical Chinese Poetry

This chapter traces the origin of iconcity within classical Chinese poetry, i.e. the ideography of Chinese characters, examines the attitudes of the Western Modernist Poetics in the twentieth century towards the iconicity of classical Chinese poetry and the debate over “thinking in characters,” tries to find out the significance of Chinese Lyrical Aesthetics as a method to study the translation of the iconcity of classical Chinese poetry and the significance of the study of the translation of the iconity of classical Chinese poetry for the development of English poetry and even for the development of digital humanities.
