Care of Clients with Sexual Disorders
摘要
Sexual disorders are prevalent yet often under-recognized conditions that significantly impact psychological well-being, interpersonal relationships, and overall quality of life. This chapter aims to equip nursing students with essential knowledge and practical skills to assess, manage, and support individuals affected by sexual disorders, thereby contributing to holistic sexual health promotion and patient-centered care. It provides a comprehensive overview of sexual disorders with special emphasis on definitions, classifications, risk factors, clinical features, diagnostic criteria, and management strategies. It highlights the multifactorial etiology of sexual dysfunctions, including biological, psychological, relational, sociocultural, and lifestyle components. Current evidence-based approaches in medical management, such as pharmacological therapy, psychotherapy, behavioral interventions, and hormonal treatment, are discussed. The role of nurses is explored in depth, focusing on assessment, therapeutic communication, patient education, supportive interventions, and collaborative care. Preventive measures across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels are also presented.
