Integrating Contemporary Building Performance Needs for Sustaining Spiritual Intelligence in Community Buildings
摘要
A recent study found managers of mosques could assess their facilities by ensuring they offer programs that meet the spiritual intelligence needs of contemporary communities. This includes the consideration of the human factors, consisting of physical needs, social needs, and spiritual intelligence needs of the mosques’ users, consisting of the local groups and visitors. However, meeting these needs is insufficient for sustaining community buildings if it does not consider the built-environment factor. This paper presents the results of a study on contemporary building performance needs and subsequently recommends how it can be integrated into an earlier proposed Contemporary Community Needs Framework for mosque managers. A case study research was conducted on nine district mosques in Selangor, Malaysia using semi-structured interviews with their managers. The responses were analyzed using content analysis that applied a 67% acceptance criterion. The results led to the recommendation of integrating the built-environment factor into the Contemporary Community-Centric Mosque Framework which includes physical building performance needs, environmental building performance needs, and functional building performance needs. The findings further led to the development of the Contemporary Building Performance Needs framework for mosque managers. This framework emphasizes integrating building performance with community needs to provide comprehensive facilities that cater to the demands of contemporary communities. The framework is expected to facilitate the development of a decision-making tool to optimize facilities in contemporary community-centric mosques for the growing Muslim population.
