Wang Shouren 王守仁 (also known as Bo’an 伯安 or Yangming 阳明) was born in Yuyao, Zhejiang province, on October 31, 1472, or the 30th day of the ninth month of the eighth year of the Chenghua period. Legend has it that this baby had stayed in his mother, Lady Zheng’s, 郑womb for 14 months. On the very day, his grandmother Cen 岑 dreamed that “while a celestial in red was playing a melody in the cloud to bring her a baby, she suddenly woke up hearing the baby crying”. For this reason, his grandfather called him “Yun 云 (Cloud)” and named the pavilion of his birth after Ruiyun 瑞云 (Auspicious Cloud).
