Teaching Translation at the University of N’Djamena: Challenges and Opportunies
摘要
Teaching translation is a complex task that requires a specific pedagogical approach which considers the needs of students and the demands of the job markets. The main objective of our work is to explore how translation course is delivered at the University of N’Djamena and how students translate selected texts from different genres of discourse from English to French and vice versa. This present study is based on observation and our own experience as a freelance translator. The findings reveal that the traditional translation teaching in the University of N’Djamena does not match perfectly with the demands of the markets for competent translators. As a result, due to the lack of dedicated School of conference interpreting and translation, international organizations rely on freelancers who work under short-term contracts.
