Lecturer Evaluation Using Google Form in a Higher Education Institution in South Africa
摘要
Google forms are easily accessible forms used in teaching and learning, in lecturer evaluations, and to conduct assessments. Effective teachers evaluate learning through various assessments. In this paper, we look at Google form as a tool for lecturer evaluation in the HEI in South Africa. This is a qualitative study, and we use the online focus group interviews which are conducted with lecturers who were lecturing Bachelor’s degree program in the HEI and who were evaluated using Google forms. We also did a content analysis of the student feedback provided via the Google forms to understand the student experiences in using the Google forms. In this case, Google forms were used by the evaluator to evaluate the lecturer, and it was sent to the students who responded to the questionnaire about the formative assessment created by the lecturer. It helped to understand how effective the formative assessment questions that were used in the classroom were. Inductive thematic analysis is used for data analysis and themes were identified based on student feedback and based on lecturer’s perspectives on the use of the forms. These themes were: relevance of Google form in evaluating teachers, Google forms to assess the quality of the assessment, student engagement in the assessment, and effective formative assessment design strategy. Google forms helped for a deeper understanding of the formative assessment effectiveness and teaching effectiveness. These forms were convenient to use and accessible to the students, but one of the limitations of its use is lack of internet access.
