Disability Futures and Genetic Determinism and Posthumanism
摘要
This chapter examines how disability futures, genetic determinism, and posthumanism interconnect to reform present-day understandings of human disparity, embodiment, and enhancement. Improvements in genetics, gene therapy, and genome editing confront traditional philosophies of biological limits, while discussions over perfectionism and pluralism illuminate the ethical tensions between human excellence and the recognition of diversity. Disability advocacy reveals how experience, rights-based movements, and intersectional discrimination impact societal opinions of disability and flourishing. Posthumanist viewpoints further destabilize restrictions between the nonhuman and the human, the natural and the artificial, raising concerns about technological enhancement, inequality, and ableism. The chapter integrates philosophical, biomedical, and socio-political analyses to highlight how emerging technologies both transform and complicate disability futures.
