As the core component of the road transportation system, the operational safety of commercial vehicles not only concerns the safety of people's lives and property but also directly impacts the stability of the socio-economy and the sustainable development of the transportation industry. With the large-scale application of new energy technologies and the rapid advancement of assisted driving technologies, the safety ecosystem of commercial vehicles is undergoing profound transformations. Based on the 2023–2024 national statistical data on commercial vehicle traffic accidents, the main causes of accidents are analyzed systematically. In conjunction with the application outcomes of new energy and assisted driving technologies, the optimization needs for the operational safety technologies of commercial vehicles are proposed. The aim is to provide recommendations and references for the revision of the GB7258–2017, in order to further enhance the intrinsic safety level of commercial vehicles and strengthen the alignment of their operational safety technical requirements with the evolving industry demands and road transportation safety management needs under the new circumstances.
