Water conservation has emerged as a strategic priority in the hospitality and tourism sector, driven by escalating water scarcity, environmental degradation, and rising demand for sustainable practices. This chapter examines the complex interrelationship between water resource management and sustainable hospitality, providing a global overview of how hotels, resorts, restaurants, and informal tourism enterprises contribute to and are affected by water-related challenges. Drawing on empirical evidence, global datasets, and policy frameworks, the discussion contextualizes the hospitality industry’s water footprint within broader environmental and social systems. Key themes include regional disparities in water use, the inefficiencies embedded in tourism supply chains, and the potential of technological, managerial, and behavioral interventions to reduce consumption and promote circular water practices. The analysis aligns these approaches with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), while also addressing intersections with poverty alleviation, health, food security, gender equity, clean energy, and climate action. Economic growth, environmental responsibility, and social equity all depend on operational efficiency and serve as pathways to long-term industry resilience and ethical tourism development.

摘要
