Understanding Patterns of Water Consumption in the Hospitality Sector
摘要
Understanding how and why water is consumed across the hospitality sector is critical for shaping both operational strategy and sustainability policy. This chapter provides an evidence-based interpretation of hotel and restaurant water use patterns, drawing from international datasets and recent field studies. It explains the structural, behavioral, and climatic factors that govern variations in consumption, from guestroom demand to irrigation and cooling systems. Comparative insights from India, the UAE, Spain, and South Africa illustrate how technological adaptation, managerial practices, and regulatory frameworks can collectively reduce water use by 20–50%. Beyond quantifying usage, the discussion links water efficiency with economic resilience and social responsibility, positioning hospitality as a measurable and accountable contributor to global water stewardship and SDG 6 targets.
