The coming into force of the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement in 2019 and the steps being taken to promote the free movement of goods and services throughout the continent as well as the African Union’s Agenda 2063, a 50-year strategic framework for Africa’s socio-economic and geopolitical transformation provide the context and background for the need to undertake wide ranging research into all areas of management practice in Africa. However, given that the African continent contains 54 countries/jurisdictions, it is going to be a major challenge requiring strong political will by African leadership to achieve this goal within the shortest time possible. One of the ways to usher in a new era in Africa is for the populace to see the practical utility of economic and political integration in terms of improved well-being and sustainable socio-economic progress. This goal can be achieved through a more effective management of resources available in the continent and shared prosperity, hence the need to undertake a greater level of research into all areas of management practice in the continent. For research to be of practical utility this must be undertaken within the context of the African business environment and findings widely disseminated to all stakeholders. The rational application of research findings arising from such management research efforts should hopefully boost productivity, economic growth and income levels throughout the continent.
