In this chapter, we present examples of applying Eastern techniques and ideas that can be called indigenous knowledge to actual manufacturing sites, discussing the difficulties and challenges involved in the development process of new patents. In developing a waterproof coating using Kakishibu, we discuss the positioning of development of paints and coating from the perspective of patents owned by Maxell, Ltd. Based on this, we show how the company recognized the value of traditional techniques. We also discuss the problems associated with the commercialization of traditional techniques when viewed as modern practices, citing other examples found in the literature. Additionally, we explain the management approach based on Eastern philosophy, including Buddhism, that was used to promote the research in this case. Furthermore, we describe the technical review undertaken, including forming the development concept, experimental method, experimental data results, and evaluation methods. This allows us to discuss the possibility of industrializing traditional techniques, which are time-consuming and labor-intensive. We try to show that the fusion of traditional techniques and modern science is an effective way to promote the commercialization of traditional techniques. Finally, we discuss the potential applications of traditional techniques in modern industry and society.

摘要
