An Analysis of the Long-Term Care in Italy: Financial and Non-financial Issues
摘要
Like many other countries, Italy is facing an aging in population and a consequent growing demand for Long-Term Care (LTC) services. This chapter analyzes the current and future demand for LTC services, and it compares this demand with the current offer of the LTC system. The scenario is about a quite heterogeneous system that involves several players from both the public and private sectors. The big picture is about a gap between the needs of families in assisting members with LTC needs and the available solutions on the market. The solution to this gap is essentially based on the so called “badanti”: private workers dedicated to the home assistance of dependent individuals, privately hired by households. The chapter provides several statistics to allow the reader understanding the complexity of the Italian LTC system, and the role that different solutions play in it.
