Global sustainability is increasingly threatened by environmental destruction, particularly in conflict-affected regions. War accelerates ecological degradation, disrupts development, and deepens humanitarian crises. Yet, international legal frameworks remain fragmented, outdated, and difficult to enforce. This article assesses whether existing international humanitarian law (IHL) sufficiently protects the environment during armed conflicts or if further legal provisions are required. Through treaty analysis, case law examination, and comparative assessment of international legal instruments, it identifies critical gaps and inconsistencies. To enhance protections, the UN General Assembly must establish a global legal consensus, laying the foundation for a comprehensive Environmental Protection Convention. As warfare continues to inflict severe environmental harm, strengthening legal safeguards is no longer optional, it is essential for the survival of both humanity and the natural world.

摘要
