Phytochemicals Potentially Applied for Dermatological Diseases
摘要
Dermatological disorders impose a significant global burden, driving the need for novel, cost-effective therapeutic strategies that transcend the limitations of conventional treatments. This chapter highlights the potential of phytochemicals, including flavonoids, phenolic acids, terpenoids, alkaloids, tannins, and saponins, in managing diverse dermatological disorders such as eczema, acne, hyperpigmentation, photoageing, and even skin cancers. These naturally derived compounds exert multifaceted effects by neutralising oxidative stress, modulating inflammatory pathways, inhibiting critical enzymes like tyrosinase and matrix metalloproteinases, and promoting collagen synthesis and wound healing, thereby enhancing skin barrier integrity and repair. Collectively, the convergence of traditional herbal wisdom with modern scientific methodologies foresees a transformative era in personalised dermatological care, where phytochemical-based formulations offer sustainable and effective alternatives for skin protection and rejuvenation.
