Open Data as a Tool for Technological Extension: Enriching Computer Science Education Through Civic Engagement
摘要
This article presents a technological extension experience focused on the use of open data as a tool to enrich the education of Computer Science students. The initiative aimed to promote dialogue between university and society through the development of interactive dashboards built with municipal public data, centered on priority themes defined in collaboration with community representatives and public officials. Throughout the process, students had the opportunity to apply technical knowledge in real-world contexts while also developing transversal competencies such as autonomy, critical thinking, and social responsibility. The activity also contributed to the fulfillment of approximately 25% of the extension workload required by national curricular guidelines. The results indicate that using open data as a form of social technology can foster a more contextualized and socially engaged educational experience. As future work, the project plans to improve the dashboards based on feedback from public managers and expand the methodology to other thematic areas identified through participatory assessment.
