CEO Personality Traits and Industry Sectors: An Assessment Based on the Standard Industrial Classification
摘要
This paper proposes and discusses a concept to assess the relationship between CEO personality traits and industry sectors based on Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes. Understanding the link between CEO personality traits and SIC codes can inform the evaluation of candidates for specific industry sectors. CEO personality is analyzed based on the Big Five personality traits: Extraversion, Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, Neuroticism, and Openness. The SIC codes was first developed in the 1930s by the Interdepartmental Committee on Industrial Statistics, established by the Central Statistical Board of the United States. It classifies businesses into 10 major divisions, which serve as the foundation for our assessment model. This study highlights how personality aligns with industry characteristics, offering insights for executive selection, leadership development, and strategic planning.
