Senolytic and Senomorphic Compounds Derived from Food
摘要
The relationship between diet and the suppression of aging has long been an important topic for the functional food research. In the past few years, the accumulation of senescent cells with aging has been highlighted in gerontology. These cells secrete pro-inflammatory factors, collectively known as the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP), which induce senescence-like phenotypes in neighboring cells and contribute aging-related pathologies. Therefore, selective elimination of senescent cells and suppression of SASP have been key areas developed in the aging research over the past decade. This chapter provides an overview of the latest findings on food-derived compounds possessing senolytic (senescent cell-eliminating) and senomorphic (SASP-suppressing) activities.
