Functional Interactions Between Polyphenols and Gut Microbiota

The health benefits of polyphenols are widely accepted, but their mechanism of action is more complex as their relationship with the gut microbiota has been clarified. It is thought that polyphenols and the gut microbiota interact to produce a variety of catabolites and metabolites, and the sum of their biological activities may manifest as health functions. This chapter outlines the functional interactions between polyphenols and the gut microbiota.
