From Oratory to Colloquialism: A Conceptual Framework for Contemporary Political Rhetoric and Persuasive Speaking
摘要
This chapter serves as an introduction to the book. Following the initial section on political oratory and the transformations in oratory and persuasive communication in the modern era, the chapter is organized into three additional sections. The second section defines key terms central to the book—namely, oratory and rhetoric, rhetorical devices, techniques that shape public perceptions of political events, issues, and politicians, styles of discourse, and culture and political culture and their effects on politicians’ discourse. The third section delineates the primary objectives of the project underpinning this book and discusses aspects related to the transformation of political oratory in selected countries across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America. The final section of this chapter outlines the structure of the book and provides a brief description of each contribution.
