This chapter examines 15 English- and Romanian-language YouTube videos of so-called hot war tourism filmed in Ukraine and Russia since the beginning of the latest conflict between the two countries on 24 February 2022. Its aim is to assess these videos’ contribution to the representation of the Russian-Ukrainian war against the background of mainstream media representations and in particular the ways in which amateur war tourists explicitly or implicitly set themselves apart from (do not align with) mainstream media narratives, styles, or ideologies. Ultimately, the analysis aims to reveal the mechanisms behind the erosion of the boundary between mainstream and alternative media, contributing to the discussion on the politics of visibility involved in posting user-generated content on YouTube.

摘要
