Autonomic nervous system disorders of the bowel cause constipation, which not only affects the quality of life but also leads to emergency intestinal pseudo-obstruction. Diseases affecting gut innervation include diabetic neuropathy, dementia with Lewy bodies/Parkinson’s disease, and multiple system atrophy. Here, we focus on typical such cases and discuss their pathophysiology and proper management.
