Diagnosis and Treatment of DGBI of the Esophagus, Globus, Functional Dysphagia
摘要
Globus is defined as the sensation of a lump in the throat or a feeling of discomfort. Functional dysphagia is defined as the sensation of food stucking or passing poorly through the esophageal body. A definitive diagnosis requires ruling out organic or functional diseases that induce similar symptoms. Although the pathophysiology and treatment are not fully established, symptoms often improve or resolve without treatment in many patients. Therefore, treatment should focus on explanation of the pathological condition and reassurance. Medication should be limited to short periods due to side effects. Psychosocial factorsPsychosocial factors can significantly influence symptoms and reduce patients’ quality of life. Therefore, a comprehensive approach that includes psychosocial aspects is necessary. Holistic medical care is always necessary.
