The aim of this chapter is to examine the development of social policy in Taiwan, also in terms of its membership in the ideal-typical East Asian welfare model. In doing so, the changing process in social welfare policy and its interweaving relations with the politics in Taiwan will be investigated and demonstrated. It will review the history of social policy and with it the politics of social policy in Taiwan. Then the present welfare state system will be explored and evaluated. In addition, the political and social determinants of social policy will be examined thoroughly.
