This chapter investigates the pause characteristics in English-to-Chinese SI by professional interpreters, focusing on pause frequency. Section 4.1 analyzes pause frequency in the target speech; Section 4.2 compares it with the source speech. Section 4.3 examines the formation mechanisms of pause frequency characteristics, analyzing interpreters’ behavioral strategies and its cognitive underpinnings.
