The transportation sector plays a critical role in sustainable tourism, particularly in ecologically sensitive regions with high tourist influx. Addressing mode choice and transportation efficiency represents a key strategy for managing environmental impact and improving visitor experiences. This study explores tourist mode shift from private to public transport in Dehradun and Mussoorie using fuzzy logic, addressing challenges of congestion and inefficient transportation. By developing a novel fuzzy logic-based mode choice model, the research captures the inherent uncertainties in travelers’ decision-making processes through a comprehensive survey of socioeconomic and travel characteristics. The model predicts mode shift potential by analyzing critical variables, including travel time, cost, comfort, and group size, revealing significant opportunities for sustainable tourism transportation. Key findings demonstrate that strategic improvements in public transport infrastructure and the implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) can effectively encourage modal transition. The research contributes a sophisticated modeling approach that transcends traditional deterministic methods, offering policymakers nuanced insights into tourist transportation preferences and sustainable mobility strategies.

摘要
