To meet the needs of marine surveying, resource exploration, and underwater safety, a sonar system capable of both ‘wide-area surveys’ and ‘detailed scans is essential. For this purpose, a wideband multibeam sonar system has been built. This paper analyses and designs the system from the perspectives of wideband transducer design, multi-channel low-noise synchronous data acquisition and processing, amplitude-phase consistency calibration, and multi-beam automatic control. Test results in water bodies such as riverbeds and bridge piers demonstrate the system’s satisfactory application performance.
