Institutions of Xiqu Communication in the 20th Century
摘要
Xiqu communication in the 20th century was carried out within a specific cultural context, driven by the four major forces of culture, politics, economy, and folk customs. However, these forces alone were not sufficient to ensure the effective communication of xiqu. Therefore, studying the agents of xiqu communication throughout the 20th century is very necessary. In the agrarian era, the agents of xiqu communication were mainly xiqu troupes themselves and some commercial teahouses and restaurants. Additionally, since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, some scholar-officials and literati have also served as agents of xiqu communication, holding significant positions in the history of Chinese xiqu. In the 20th century, more institutions became closely related to xiqu communication. Generally speaking, there are six major types of institutions: professional troupes, professional theaters, media organizations, government departments, societies and guilds, and professional institutions. These institutions often serve as leading forces in xiqu communication, working together with other institutions to jointly promote the development of the xiqu art in the 20th century.
