Towards Reliable and Safe Mooring Operations: Investigating Design Principles, Evolution Process, and Optimization Mechanisms
摘要
The mooring design is concerned with the various arrangements of mooring lines of the mooring systems concerning different floating vessels. These mooring lines seen as iron chains, fiber ropes, or the form of steel wires, are conceived as the important facets during the offshore mooring operation in securing the floating vessels at one position. Mooring design has been given the greatest importance in offshore mooring operations to perform reliable and safe offshore mooring operations and to avoid unexpected losses that include, human loss or injury, financial loss, termination of production operation, and splitting of oil and gas to the environment due to the failure of mooring lines. This failure is normally found due to the fault in the mooing lines, high tension, or load on one or more mooring lines during the mooring operation. This study focuses on mooring design principles, and the design evolution process and provides a mechanism for industry professionals and offshore engineers to opt best-suited mooring design concerning their requirements based on various characteristics to optimize the reliability and safety of the offshore mooring operation by minimizing the risks of mooring line failure and to avoid from unexpected losses. Similarly, the step-by-step process in the evolution of the mooring design has also been provided Following this procedure can assist the industry professional and offshore engineers in enhancing the optimal performance of marine structures and the reliability and safety of offshore mooring operations.
