Effect of Different Thicknesses of Concrete-Bamboo Sandwich Panel Load Bearing Wall Under Compression Loading
摘要
Studies on utilizing bamboo as structural and strengthening components are still limited. This paper presents a case study on effective and practical approaches for concrete-bamboo sandwich panels (CBSP) designed as load-bearing walls with two different wall thicknesses. Three (3) specimens for each type of wall were made to be the same height (1200mm) and width (600mm) and with a wall thickness of 150 mm versus 250 mm, respectively. The compression and moisture content properties of small clear bamboo materials made of Bambusa Vulgaris species were also measured. As a result, adding an 80 mm thickness of concrete to the wall has minimal impact on its ultimate strength. In fact, it has reduced the wall's compressive strength by 34%. Therefore, to increase the strength capacity of this bamboo load-bearing wall design, it is recommended to increase the number of round bamboo rather than the width of the wall.
