Veterinary public health, a crucial intersection of human, animal, and environmental health, has a rich history that is intensely intertwined with the progress of public health. From the initial acknowledgements of zoonotic ailments to the creation of official veterinary provisions, this domain has been consistently adapted to tackle novel issues and adjust to shifting realities. In this chapter, the historical trajectory of veterinary public health, tracing its origins from the control of animal diseases to its modern-day focus on One Health initiative, has been discussed. This chapter also examines significant progress in several areas, such as the integration of veterinary expertise into public health agencies, the implementation of food safety protocols, and the shared recognition of the interconnectedness of human and animal health. The expanding scope of veterinary public health encompasses emerging infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, food security, and environmental sustainability, highlighting its vigorous role in safeguarding global health in the twenty-first century.
