Erysipeloid
摘要
Erysipeloid is an uncommon yet significant cutaneous infection initiated by the traumatic introduction of Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae into the skin. It was not until the late nineteenth century that this microorganism was confirmed to be pathogenic in humans. This infection is attributed to the Gram-positive bacillus Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae (insidiosa), known for its capacity to persist for extended periods in soil or decomposed organic matter. Typically, individuals with occupational exposure to raw fish, poultry, and meat products, or those in contact with contaminated animals, particularly swine, are susceptible to this condition. While Erysipeloid primarily manifests as a cutaneous infection, ranging from mild to severe forms, it can occasionally manifest systemically, particularly in rare instances among immunocompromised individuals.
