Graduate students, however, should understand the more abstract formulation based on vector spaces and linear operators. We summarize the mathematics necessary for the formulation of quantum mechanics in Sect. 4.6.1.

In a typical undergraduate course, quantum mechanics is formulated mainly via wave functions.
