The built environment includes all man-made buildings and structures. Making it sustainable is a challenge that eludes humanity but we depend on the same buildings and other structures that mean we are using more than can be regenerated. The challenge is getting ever greater with many more buildings yet to be built in rapidly urbanising economies in Asia and Africa. ESG reporting has emerged as the principle means for organisations to disclose their efforts in environmental, social and governance actions towards greater sustainability. This is in part response to shareholder activism. Asia is worthy of particular focus because of the high proportion of global energy consumption that is building related with a significant amount used in air conditioning systems.

摘要
