Preface—Humanity’s Future Depends on the Building and Construction Industry
摘要
Our lives on this planet depend on the building and construction industry, including roads and infrastructure. At the same time, the building and construction industry is the most ruinous for the environment. Building materials, construction, operation and use and demolition of buildings vary by year but consistently account for between 34 and 38% of CO2 emissions in recent years. The industry sucks in larger quantities of material, labour and energy resources than any other. Real estate development and use directly and indirectly contribute more man-made Greenhouse Gases (GHG) than any other human activity. But we cannot live without cities.
