The Role and Impact of City and Science Networks and Science for Urban Climate Solutions
摘要
This chapter examines the critical role of city and science networks in advancing urban climate solutions through collaborative research and knowledge exchange. Drawing on insights from international climate networks, the analysis assesses how scientific collaboration enables cities to develop well-versed understandings of complex and compounding climate change problems and work alongside national governments to lead implementation of evidence-based urban climate solutions. The chapter highlights three key findings: first, climate and science networks possess unique capabilities to bridge scientific knowledge with municipal action; second, there exists a persistent need for enhanced South-South collaboration and greater opportunities for leadership from Global South cities within major network governance structures; and third, translating scientific data into actionable and digestible information should be prioritized within city and science networks, with expanded reporting, assessments, and case studies in multiple languages to ensure inclusive participation and broader outreach. These findings underscore the importance of strengthening equitable network infrastructures to accelerate climate-resilient urban transitions globally.
