This chapter reviews research progress in Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT), focusing on the critical roles of equity and passenger satisfaction in sustaining DRT service systems. Route planning based predominantly on historical data, particularly through artificial intelligence, often overlooks the needs of sparsely distributed populations, thereby exacerbating inequity and diminishing passenger satisfaction. Consequently, it is imperative for route planning and operational scheduling to address travel equity for vulnerable groups and ensure spatio-temporal balance. This necessitates in-depth discussions on target service groups, service scope, reasonable fare policies, and public welfare safeguards to inform effective DRT route design. Such a design must balance passenger interests, operator benefits, and social welfare, employing distinct objective functions and constraints tailored to different stakeholders. Furthermore, this chapter explores the significance of DRT through equity-focused case studies and evaluations.

摘要
