Land rent is an ancient and persistent economic form in China, closely intertwined with other long-standing economic relations. Throughout Chinese economic history, land has been treated as a fundamental issue, and the form of land rent is therefore central to understanding broader economic phenomena. Elsewhere I have discussed the links between landownership and commercial and usury capital, and between land rent, commercial profit, and interest. Here I turn to land rent itself as the most concrete expression of land relations and outline its major patterns and characteristics in China.

摘要

Land rent is an ancient and persistent economic form in China, closely intertwined with other long-standing economic relations. Throughout Chinese economic history, land has been treated as a fundamental issue, and the form of land rent is therefore central to understanding broader economic phenomena. Elsewhere I have discussed the links between landownership and commercial and usury capital, and between land rent, commercial profit, and interest. Here I turn to land rent itself as the most concrete expression of land relations and outline its major patterns and characteristics in China.
