Food, energy, and water (FEW) are not only the foundation of survival but also represent material wealth and spiritual fulfillment. Traditionally, urban planning has focused on land, buildings, and infrastructure, often neglecting the sustainability of resource supply, quality of life, and environmental impact. The urban FEW nexus perspective addresses these shortcomings. Approaching FEW from an urban design perspective can visualize scientific research outcomes and bring urban issues into reality. The author advocates for the moveable nexus method, a design-led Urban Nexus research approach. It consists of three components: (1) capturing urban systems at multiple scales based on FEW, (2) visually evaluating the current state of urban decarbonization and the effectiveness of initiatives using the environmental load indicator FEWprint, and (3) visualizing the connections among diverse stakeholders through actor networks to promote cocreation. This chapter reviews Urban Nexus research methods, explains the M-NEX approach, and introduces its application.

摘要
