Imaging in Cochlear Implantation
摘要
Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) occurs due to disruptions in the auditory pathway involving the organ of Corti, the inner ear, the cochlear nerve, and the auditory centers of the brain. SNHL is characterized by defects in detecting and localizing sounds and impaired speech recognition and discrimination. According to WHO estimates, about 5% of the world’s population (over 700 million) will suffer from disabling sensorineural hearing loss by 2050 [1]. Cochlear implants are the standard of care in severe to profound SNHL with limited or absent response to auditory rehabilitation by hearing aids.
