Non-Cognitive Competencies and Holistic Creative Reflection Skills as Genuine Human Approaches to Compassionate Leadership in Times of BANI and AI
摘要
We are amid BANI times, and leaders of companies and other organizations are forced to think and act in unusual and new ways. Competencies are becoming increasingly important, not only in sustainability contexts. Leaders are forced to develop transferable skills, such as compassion and authenticity. While cognitive tasks are partially replaced by Artificial Intelligence (AI), they need to address crucial human qualities, especially Non-Cognitive Competencies. This article presents a cross-disciplinary literature review and heuristic analysis. It discusses competencies grounded in the Inner Development Goals (IDGs) and other frameworks. The focus is on Non-Cognitive Competencies and Compassionate Leadership skills to identify key abilities that are needed to navigate the BANI world and the increasing use of AI. In part I, the first author demonstrates how among the many frameworks using different words, clusters or categories for skills, qualities, and competencies, Non-Cognitive genuine human Competencies such as integrity, empathy, and creativity remain recurring and essential. Cognitive skills and technical knowledge are not the only valid measures. Instead, the cultivation of alternative ways of perception like intuition and wisdom become relevant. In part II, the second author reflects on the findings of part I whilst applying different approaches to creative reflection, thereby employing Creative Reflective Practice, Creative Agility and spiritual poetry. These newer approaches allow us to dive deeper into creative ways of perceiving to firstly recognize and secondly holistically reflect on our genuine human abilities and skills. In part III the authors draw conclusions and come up with practical implications for promoting Compassionate Leadership through training Non-Cognitive Competencies and Holistic Creative Reflection Skills.
