An IoT-Based Fault Detection and Alert System for Railway Tracks with Image Capture and Location Reporting
摘要
Indian Railways has some of the world’s largest networks. Train movement always depends on railway rails alone. If one of these rails develops a crack, it can pose a huge problem. Many railway accidents occur due to the existence of a crack. The most difficult thing about a railway analysis is to detect structural faults. The mentioned defects can lead to a chain reaction of derailment, which leads to greater loss of human life and properties. The proposed railway track error detection system automatically detects faulty railway tracks without man-machine intervention. This research is an attempt to develop the Powered Fault Detection System for Railway Tracks with a view to improve railway safety as a result of the structural faults on the railway tracks. This system utilizes an Arduino microcontroller to control and manage several sensors and components. It has two ultrasonic sensors to monitor the tracks for cracks. If fault detection occurs, the system provides the location with the help of a GPS module and sends an alert message with a detailed report to the registered mobile number by mentioning the type of fault location. Further, a servo-controlled camera module automatically captures fault imagery for documentation. This image is then transferred to the concerned authority through email; appropriate intervention and repair are ensured on time. It is a proactive railway system for maintenance which envisages less accident prone safety during operation.
