There are research findings that differences in COVID-19 can be partially explained by BCG vaccination policies: is it so that the countries with universal vaccination policies are associated with lower incidence and death rates from COVID-19? Vaccination drives were quite robust in the South Asian economies with substantial economic benefits in the medium run, apart from health benefits, though concerns remain over very low overall health expenditure and inadequate infrastructure in the SA region. However, often these benefits are contingent on solid international collaboration and initiatives from developed countries. Based on the evidence available and anecdotes, this chapter provides an interesting discussion on the critical aspects of vaccination and related health policies, supply constraints, policy designs, etc., in the South Asian region during the COVID-19 pandemic. The chapter underscores that in spite of the SA region having high poverty rates, literacy too low, and hence vaccine hesitancy high, timely proactive policies and success rates are commendable.

摘要
