Reliability refers to the ability of a measurement instrument to consistently measure the same phenomenon across repeated applications (Portney and Watkins 2000). In general, when a researcher seeks to evaluate the similarity of obtained values, reliability is assessed by examining the level of agreement. Types of reliability include test–retest reliability, rater reliability, and internal consistency.
