The Cultural Power of Moral Cultivation and Its Contemporary Challenges
摘要
To approach the world’s oldest continuous civilization philosophically is a formidable challenge, demanding a nuanced understanding from both author and reader. Having established an analytical groundwork in earlier discussions, we now turn to a holistic and introspective perspective to meet this challenge and reframe a fuller picture of China’s cultural and moral foundations. This entails reflecting on its enduring moral legacy, remarkable resilience, and the expansive love that nourished its development, as well as their influence on the evolution of science in ancient China. Equally vital is an examination of the cultural challenges China faces today. In response, the framework of “morally grounded democracy” is introduced as a path toward reconciling moral tradition with modern governance, ultimately affirming the enduring relevance of Chinese wisdom in navigating the complexities of the contemporary world.
