The Formation of Xerox’s Core Zone: From Copying Techniques to Xerography

Xerography was the invention of a patent attorney. For many, this fact alone may raise eyebrows—after all, when an intellectual property professional invents, drafts, and patents a technology, then sells it to non-practicing entities and reaps huge profits, it inevitably invites suspicion of being a patent troll. Indeed, history’s earliest known patent troll was a patent lawyer, and the first recorded case of such a troll suing a practicing company occurred over a century ago.
