Is style translatable? Can style by reproduced in translation? And what makes an effective translation of style in fictional texts? The present chapter, by drawing upon the theories from modern translation studies, takes the Hong Kong bilingual translator Jane Lai and her translating of a short story—A Wine Pot—by Cui Bawa as a case study. It investigates how the translator made her own endeavors and kept intact the rural flavor and local color in the target text. The major focus is on the strategies and norms adopted and the aesthetical effect achieved in the receptor language culture.
