Digital Technologies in Fashion Materials Supply Chain and Ethics
摘要
The integration of key digital technologies in the fashion materials supply chain has caused a shift and transformation within the industry. These technologies have provided innovative approaches that have enhanced transparency, efficiency and sustainability. Key digital technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and blockchain technology, amongst others, have improved the principles and engagement within the supply chain. Aside from their potential benefits and advantages, these technologies, however, pose some ethical challenges surrounding privacy, data protection and job losses, amongst others. To further understand the extent of adoption of these technologies and their related ethical concerns, this chapter provides an overview of the subject area. In this chapter, several digital technologies widely adopted within the material supply chain in the fashion industry are discussed. Their related benefits and limitations are highlighted to provide significant information for readers. We further discuss the key ethical considerations and strategies or frameworks to address ethical concerns with the adoption of digital technologies. The benefits and challenges of adopting these technologies in the fashion material supply chain have also been discussed. Through case studies, the real-world applications of these digital technologies by brands within the supply chain are discussed. The chapter finally concludes with some insights into future research directions for stakeholders, fashion brands and consumers to ensure transparency, efficiency and sustainability within the fashion industry.
